How many times have you heard someone say, “ The truth is….” It’s just something we say when we want to emphasize that what we are getting ready to say is the honest truth. The problem is that there are so many ideas, philosophies and religions that purport to be telling the truth.

As Christians we need to know not only what we believe but why we believe what we do. Because I am a Bible teacher, I am always curious to discover that there are many people who are uncertain about what they believe and some who know what they believe but have no idea why. It’s as if they have too many tabs open to every point of you that truth with a capital T is elusive.

And to add to this, there are so many books, teachings, and philosophies that the way to true happiness or self-fulfillment is to believe their point of view.

So what is truth? According to Webster’s online dictionary, truth is the body of real things, events and facts. In other words, truth is reality. And back in the weeds we go. If truth is reality, which reality? Our attitude towards truth determines the outcome of our lives.

Jesus addressed this subject.

I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

So point number one- Jesus is truth.

Point number two- Jesus came to us as truth to bring us the reality of His kingdom. His first words of ministry give us a clue as to how to access this truth. Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. When we turn from our own reality of ourselves to His reality that we fall short and can never live life apart from God, accepting Jesus as our Savior, truth with a capital T comes to live within our lives.

In a world where truth is nebulous, and confusing and comes up short, Jesus as Truth brings clarity and freedom to our lives. There is something so very powerful to see our lives through Christ and in Christ; seeing our purpose clearly as a Christ-follower who carries His truth.

Jesus boldly declared that He is the way and the truth and He defined this truth as the way to the Father. Take time today to sit with His words and ask Him how his words impact your life. Or do they?
